"Holiday Club Columbus"
The activities of "Holiday Club Columbus" intend to provoke the children's curiosity, help to teach them respect for nature and guide them towards an understanding of flora and fauna as well as their natural habitats. This way, we want to contribute to help our children become responsible citizens.
The main objective of our nature-based holiday programme is fun for the participating adults and children. However, the activities are more than consume-oriented leisure activities since we promote and stimulate self-initiative aiming at the development of the participants’ interest for nature and its conservation. At the end of the activities, people learn something about our natural heritage - provided that this is the participant’s desire, otherwise we have an enjoyable afternoon in nature with lots of fresh air…
Under the professional care and guidance of Dr. Michael Schneider we make short excursions with the children to the typical habitats of the Bavarian Alps such as meadows, creeks, and forests. There we collect and identify insects and other small animals as well as plants and study the interrelationships between these creatures and thier environment.
In the lab we can observe and study insects and other small things under the microscope.
The microscope is connected to a video camera and a computer and images as well as videop sequences can be recorded. The images can be processed by the children, e.g. labelled and eventualy printed.
